High-pressure Hydraulic Hose Application
- Construction Machinery: Excavators and cranes utilize spiral-wound hoses (such as SAE 100R15) to withstand the ultra-high pressures—potentially exceeding 100 MPa—generated during the extension and retraction of the excavator arm; this application demands exceptional burst resistance and abrasion resistance.
- Oil & Gas: Used for subsea well control systems and hydraulic tools on offshore oil platforms (e.g., bolt tensioners). These hoses must withstand the extreme pressures of the deep sea as well as the corrosive effects of seawater.
- Agricultural Machinery: Tractors and harvesters rely on hydraulic hoses to power steering mechanisms and the lifting/lowering of agricultural implements. These hoses must resist abrasion from field debris and exposure to sunlight while maintaining their flexibility.
- Automotive Manufacturing: Employed in braking systems and power steering mechanisms. Characterized by their compact size, these hoses must withstand extreme temperature fluctuations (ranging from -40°C to over 120°C), as they play a critical role in vehicle safety.
- Chemical and Petrochemical Industries: Hydraulic drives for reactor stirring, high-pressure pipelines, and flammable and explosive environments.
- Metallurgy and Steel: Hydraulic transmission in high-temperature and high-load environments such as forging presses, rolling mills, and blast furnace equipment.
- Industrial Manufacturing: Injection molding machinery, machine tools, high-pressure cleaning equipment, waterjet cutting, and hydraulic system pressure testing.

How to Choose High Pressure Hydraulic Hose?
When selecting hydraulic hoses, the first thing to consider is their working pressure parameter. The working pressure of a hydraulic hose refers to the maximum pressure it can withstand under normal operating conditions. This value must be higher than or equal to the maximum working pressure of the hydraulic system. This is a fundamental requirement for ensuring the safe operation of the hydraulic system. Especially for applications involving high-pressure pulses or pressure fluctuations, such as hydraulic breakers and injection molding machines, the system pressure will frequently experience drastic changes. Such pressure shocks can cause significant damage to the hose.
The hose’s dimensions, especially its inner diameter, must be compatible with the system’s flow requirements.
The hose must be able to withstand the highest and lowest temperatures that the system may experience during operation. This includes both the temperature of the liquid medium in the hydraulic system and the ambient temperature of the hose. Temperature has a significant impact on the performance and lifespan of hydraulic hoses.
The correct high-pressure hydraulic hose requires the correct fittings. High-pressure hoses require fittings rated at 5,000 PSI. High-pressure hoses require adapters, which are special accessories. These adapters can be made of brass, stainless steel, or plastic. High-pressure hydraulic hose suppliers provide male and female components that ensure a safe connection.
The hose also needs to be able to adapt to the various special conditions of its operating environment. Considering wear resistance and conditions such as high-pulse corrosion, we can also provide hydraulic hoses with high pressure, high wear resistance, and high flexibility.
What is a high pressure hydraulic hose?
High-pressure hoses are usually composed of multiple layers of steel wire spiral winding reinforcement layers and high-strength rubber layers such as polyurethane, polyester rubber, and polyether rubber.
High pressure hydraulic hose pipes have the characteristics of high pressure resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, good flexibility and strong sealing performance. The safety factor reaches 4:1, and the use process is extremely safe, avoiding rupture due to excessive liquid pressure. High-pressure hoses are suitable for industrial machinery, aviation equipment, metallurgical equipment, etc.
What is the maximum pressure for a hydraulic hose?
The pressure that hydraulic hoses can withstand depends on factors such as internal structure, materials and working conditions. The maximum pressure range of hydraulic hoses can be more than 69 MPa (about 10000 psi). Hydraulic hoses are divided into low pressure, medium pressure and high pressure according to the pressure.
Low pressure hydraulic hose: Below 1.6 MPa and most commonly with textile/fabric braid reinforcement
Medium pressure hydraulic hose: Up to 10 MPa and most commonly with wire braid reinforcement
High pressure hydraulic hose: 10 MPa–100 MPa with a mix of wire braid and spiral braid reinforcement
Ultra-high pressure hose is a hose with a pressure exceeding 100 MPa.
How much pressure can a hydraulic hose handle?
Hydraulic hose maximum pressure is the maximum pressure that the hydraulic hose can withstand.
Depending on the material of the hydraulic hose reinforcement layer (reinforcement layer), the maximum pressure range that different types of hydraulic hoses can withstand is also different.
For single-layer steel wire braided hydraulic hoses such as SAE 100R1 / EN 853 1SN, the maximum working pressure is 25 Mpa (3625 psi) when the hose inner diameter is 3/16″.
For two-layers steel wire braided hydraulic hoses such as SAE 100R2/EN 853 2SN, the maximum working pressure is 41.5 Ma (6018 PSI) when the hose inner diameter is 3/16″.
For multi-layer steel wire winding (four-layer, six-layer) hydraulic hoses such as SAE 100R12 / R13 / R15 / 4SP/4SH, the working pressure range is 17-42 Mpa (2465 PSI-6090 PSI).
For fiber braided (such as polyester) reinforced hydraulic hoses such as SAE 100R6, the maximum working pressure it can withstand is 3–8 MPa (500–1200 psi).
High-pressure hydraulic hoses play an important role in conveying in hydraulic systems and cannot be replaced by ordinary hydraulic hoses.
Can a hydraulic hose be used for high pressure air?
Hydraulic hoses are generally not used to transport high-pressure air. Hydraulic hoses are mainly used for power transmission in hydraulic systems, Hydraulic hoses are generally made of rubber. Although they can withstand a certain amount of pressure, they are mainly designed to transfer hydraulic oil or liquids, not gas.
Which type of hose is best used for high pressure applications?
Spiral steel wire hydraulic hoses have multiple layers of steel wire winding reinforcement, and the compact structure has strong pressure resistance, which is more suitable for high-pressure systems. They are often used in heavy-duty machinery used in agriculture, logging, or mining.
We can wholesale hydraulic hoses that can be used in different high-pressure systems to ensure safety and efficiency.
What are the sizes of high pressure hydraulic hoses?
We can provide sizes with inner diameters of 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/2″, 1-1/4″ and 2 inches. As the inner diameter of the hydraulic hose increases, the working pressure will decrease. We can also provide constant pressure hydraulic hoses, SAE 100R15 and SAE 100R13. The former has a higher working pressure than the latter. The maximum size of the hose can be 2 inches. You can choose according to your application needs.
How to make high pressure hydraulic hose?
As a high pressure hydraulic hose manufacturer, we select high-quality rubber and high-strength steel wire, and after refining, we start extruding the inner rubber, winding the steel wire, and extruding the outer rubber. Finally, we conduct a comprehensive inspection of the product, and package and ship it when everything is ready. After everything is ready, we pack and ship the product.
The production process for high-pressure spiral hoses is divided into the following steps:
1. Inner rubber layer extrusion
2. Intermediate rubber layer winding
3. Reinforcement layer winding (wrap around the carcass)
4. Outer rubber layer extrusion
5. Vulcanization and curing
6. Surface treatment and cutting
How to cut high pressure hydraulic hose?
Before cutting the hose, first prepare the hose, measure the appropriate size, and mark the place where it needs to be cut. Using a hose cutting machine is a good way. Simply place the hose in the appropriate position and press the operating handle of the cutter to complete the cut very conveniently. However, if you don’t have a high pressure hydraulic hose cutting machine, you can still complete this operation by choosing a suitable cutting saw. Align the saw blade with the mark on the hose and cut it carefully.
In addition, when using hydraulic hose assemblies, not only cutting but also crimping is involved. Due to the special structure of high-pressure hydraulic hoses, it is recommended to use a high-pressure hydraulic hose crimping tool to crimp hoses and fittings.
How to repair high pressure hydraulic hose?
It is generally recommended to replace a damaged hydraulic hose rather than attempt repairs. High-pressure hydraulic hoses need to withstand high pressure when working. Once damaged or ruptured, the consequences are extremely serious. Directly replacing the damaged hydraulic hose is an important matter to ensure work safety.
Does hose length affect hydraulic pressure?
The pressure of the hydraulic hose will decrease as its length increases. As the hose length increases, the friction resistance along the way increases, which will cause the pressure to decrease.
