Power Steering Hose – Important components in the automotive steering system
Power Steering Pressure Hose Features
The power steering hose can withstand high pressure, has excellent pulse resistance, oil resistance, low temperature flexibility and hot air resistance.
The power steering pressure hose is burst-resistant, has high tensile strength, and has a small change rate in the length of the hose after being compressed.
The power steering pressure line hose can provide reliable and safe power steering performance in various situations, ensuring easy and safe operation of the vehicle.
Power Steering Pressure Hose Application:
The power steering hose is an important part of the car power steering system, and is mainly responsible for transmitting steering fluid. The steering fluid plays a role in transmitting force and lubrication in the power steering system, and the power steering hose is an indispensable channel in this process. It connects the steering gear and other related parts to ensure that the steering fluid can flow smoothly, thereby achieving flexible steering of the car.

How Do Power Steering Systems Work?
When the car is driving in a straight line, the steering control valve connects the working fluid pumped out by the steering oil pump to the oil tank, the steering oil pump is in an unloaded state, and the power steering does not work. When the car needs to turn, such as turning right, the driver turns the steering wheel to the right, and the steering control valve connects the working fluid pumped out by the steering oil pump to the right chamber, and connects the left chamber to the oil tank. Under the action of oil pressure, the rack and piston move, and the rocker arm shaft rotates counterclockwise through the fan teeth, pulling the main pull rod through the steering knuckle and steering trapezoid to make the left and right wheels swing to the right, thereby realizing right steering. The opposite is true for turning left.
In the power steering system, the power steering hose plays a major role in connection. If the power steering pressure hose is damaged and the power steering fluid cannot be transmitted smoothly, it will cause difficulty in turning the steering wheel and make it more difficult to steer the vehicle.
How to replace the power steering hose?
When the car’s power steering system leaks oil, you should immediately consider replacing the power steering oil hose. Here are some reasons and steps for replacing the power steering hose:
Possible reasons: Some vehicles use more fragile or less durable materials to make oil pipes due to cost control, resulting in a shorter lifespan. In addition, harsh driving environments and frequent driving will accelerate the aging process of the oil pipe. Although the probability is low, the possibility of rat bites should also be considered.
Steps for replacing the power steering hose:
1. Preparation
Before replacing the steering gear hose, you need to prepare some necessary tools, including wrenches, pliers, oil drums, gaskets, etc. At the same time, you need to ensure that the vehicle is in a safe state, turn off the engine and pull up the handbrake to avoid accidents.
2. Remove the old steering hose
First find the location of the steering gear hose, and then use a wrench to remove the nut on the old hose. Use pliers to remove the ferrule on the old hose.
After removing the old hose, you need to pour out the oil inside it to avoid polluting the environment.
3. Install a new power steering hose
Before installing the new hose, you need to apply some lubricating oil or grease to make it easier to install.
When installing the new hose, you need to pay attention to the direction and position, align the hose with the connection port and tighten the nut.
After installing the new hose, use a wrench to tighten the nut, be careful not to overtighten or over-loosen it to avoid affecting the sealing of the hose.
4. Test
After installing the new hose, you need to test the steering system to ensure that it is operating normally. The specific method is to start the engine, turn the steering wheel a few times, and observe whether there is any oil leakage around the hose. If so, you need to recheck the installation of the hose.
Can you drive a car with a bad power steering hose?
It is not recommended at all. A damaged power steering hose will affect the direction of the car and affect the safety of driving the vehicle.
How to fix a leaky power steering hose?
Generally speaking, whether the power steering hose can be repaired depends on the damaged part and the degree of damage.
If it is a local oil leak (such as loose joints and aging of the sealing ring), it can be repaired by replacing the O-ring and tightening the joint.
If the rubber part is slightly damaged (such as slight leakage, aging cracks), it can be repaired with hydraulic special glue for a short distance, but it is not recommended to use it for a long time. It is only a temporary remedy. After all, the steering hose has reached a certain service life.
Generally, the power steering hose needs to be replaced after 2 years or 30,000 kilometers, but this is not an absolute standard and needs to be judged according to the actual situation.
If it is a low-pressure return hose (Return Hose), sometimes it can be replaced by replacing the hose part in the pipeline, or using a hydraulic special connector to cut off and reconnect.
