Introduction to hydraulic hoses
Hydraulic hose is a type of flexible hose used to transport hydraulic fluids. It is usually used in hydraulic systems to provide power to hydraulic devices by transmitting liquids. It is an important and widespread transmission tool. There are different types of hydraulic hoses depending on the application scenario and production material.

Strongflex hydraulic Hoses
Hydraulic hoses are composed of inner and outer rubber layers and reinforcement layers. Generally, the inner and outer rubber layers of hoses are made of natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber or butadiene rubber; oil-resistant hoses are made of chloroprene rubber and nitrile rubber; acid-resistant, alkali-resistant and high-temperature-resistant hoses are made of EPDM, fluororubber or silicone rubber.
The reinforcement layer can be made of steel wire spiral, steel wire braid, synthetic fiber and other materials. The reinforcement material and the number of layers depend on the pressure requirements of the application, working environment, etc. Steel wire reinforcement is often used in high-pressure applications, and fiber reinforcement is mostly used in medium and low-pressure systems.
Types of hydraulic hoses
According to the structure and purpose of the hose, it can generally be divided into high-pressure hose, medium-pressure hose and low-pressure hose.
High-pressure hydraulic hoses withstand greater pressure and are mainly used in heavy-load, high-pressure-resistant occasions such as engineering machinery, metallurgy and chemical industry. Medium-pressure hoses are usually used in industrial equipment and automation control. Low-pressure hoses are suitable for low-pressure gas and liquid transmission.
According to the material of the hose, it can be classified.

Types of hydraulic hoses
Steel Wire Braided Hose:
The common reinforcing braiding material of braided hose is steel wire. The braiding layer can be single-layer, such as EN853 1SN, EN857 1SC, or double-layer, such as SAE100 R16, the specific number of layers depends on the pressure level that the hose needs to withstand. The steel wire braiding layer not only provides excellent pressure resistance, but also maintains the flexibility of the hose.
Fiber Braided Hose:
In addition to steel wire braiding, it can also be a synthetic fiber braided layer. Some hydraulic hoses use high-strength synthetic fibers (such as aramid or polyester fibers) as reinforcement layers. In addition to steel wire braiding, it can also be a synthetic fiber braided layer. Some hydraulic hoses use high-strength synthetic fibers (such as aramid or polyester fibers) as reinforcement layers. Synthetic fibers are light in weight and flexible, and are suitable for medium and low pressure hydraulic systems, such as SAE100 R3.
Spiral Hydraulic Hose:
For hydraulic systems that need to withstand extremely high pressure, the reinforcement layer can be made of high-strength steel wire spiral winding. But compared with the braided hydraulic hose, the flexibility is slightly worse. Generally, the number of spiral steel wire layers is 4 or 6. SAE 100 R12, SAE100 R9 have four high tensile steel wire spiral layers. SAE100 R13, SAE100 R15 have four or six high tensile steel wire spiral layers.
Suction hose with helical steel wire:
The oil suction hose is constructed from high-quality, oil-resistant synthetic rubber and reinforced with textile braiding and a steel wire helix to prevent collapse under vacuum conditions. The SAE 100 R4 hydraulic suction hose is primarily used for the suction and delivery of oil within hydraulic systems.

Thermoplastic hoses:
Thermoplastic hoses are lightweight and chemically resistant, making them ideal for applications that require flexibility and chemical compatibility. SAE100 R7 and SAE100 R8 are both thermoplastic hoses. The inner and outer rubber layers are both thermoplastics, and the middle reinforcement layer is one or two layers of high tensile synthetic yarn braided.
PTFE Hose:
PTFE hoses have excellent temperature and chemical resistance. They are often used in the aerospace and automotive industries where extreme conditions are prevalent. SAE 100 R14 outer tube is made of PTFE layer, and the cover is made of stainless steel braid.
Specialty hoses:
Specialty hoses are designed for specific applications, such as steam hoses for high temperature applications, jack hoses for hydraulic jacking systems, arctic hoses for low temperature environments.
Classify hydraulic hoses according to standards
SAE Standard: The SAE standard primarily follows the SAE J517 specification, categorized into multiple renowned 100R series based on structure and pressure resistance.
Common models include: SAE100 R1/R2/R3/R4/R5/R6/R7/R8/R9/R12/R15/R17
The DIN standard primarily targets steel wire braided and coiled hoses, divided into four major common systems:
DIN EN 853 (Steel Wire Braided Hose): 1ST / 1SN / 2ST / 2SN
DIN EN854 (textile braided hose): 1TE/2TE
DIN EN 856 (Wire-wound hose): 4SP/4SH
DIN EN857 (Compact Steel Wire Braided Hose): 1SC/2SC
Size of hydraulic hose
We usually measure the size of hydraulic hoses by their outside diameter and inside diameter. The usual size range is 1/4″ to 2″. If you have questions about measuring the inside and outside diameters, you can read this article. How to Measure Hydraulic Hose?
Of course, other sizes can be customized according to your needs. Feel free to contact us for the latest quote.
In addition to hydraulic hoses, there are many other types of hoses. As a hose manufacturer, we also provide different types of hoses, including PVC hoses, PU pneumatic hoses, nylon hoses, silicone hose, various industrial hoses (chemical hoses, food hoses, steam hoses, material conveying hoses, concrete hoses, water hoses, air hoses, oil hoses, welded hoses, etc.).
